Shakespeare’s Retreat is your peaceful countryside escape in the historic Bishopton Hamlet, just minutes from Stratford-upon-Avon.This newly renovated ground-floor, sympathetically renovated barn conversion blends modern comfort with the charm of its surroundings, offering an ideal retreat for couples, solo travellers, and business guests.
Nestled within Bishopton Hamlet, the property sits in an area with roots stretching back to the medieval period. Once a small agricultural settlement on the northern edge of Stratford, Bishopton is mentioned in records dating as far back as the 12th century. The hamlet later became known for its historic mill, ancient ridge-and-furrow fields, and quiet rural character - much of which still shapes the landscape today. Staying here gives you a sense of the peaceful countryside life that has surrounded Stratford for centuries.
A small hamlet of just 5 properties on land which once hosted a church and village, it was first documented in 1316. It was described then as being located between Shottery and Clopton, with boundaries dating back to at least 1016. The name arises from its association with the Bishop of Worcester, who held land in the area. It's possible too, that William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway here, though it's one of several possible nearby locations for his rushed 1582 wedding.
Inside your retreat, you’ll find a stylish double bedroom with a wardrobe and Smart TV, along with a modern, spacious shower room. The fully equipped kitchen includes everything you need to cook at home, a full-size oven, fridge, kettle, toaster, and dishwasher.
The open-plan living area features a cosy sofa bed, a second Smart TV, and a breakfast bar - perfect for dining and relaxing.
Outside you'll find your private patio, complete with ambient lighting and comfortable seating. Enjoy mornings surrounded by countryside views, where sheep graze in nearby fields and deer or hares can sometimes be spotted wandering through.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Shakespeare's Retreat — it was everything we hoped for and more. Clare was fantastic from the start, reaching out ahead of our arrival and personally greeting us, which immediately made us feel welcome and at ease. The retreat itself is beautifully designed — a charming barn conversion full of character, yet thoughtfully equipped with all the modern amenities you need for a comfortable short stay. The bed was incredibly cosy, and we slept so well in such peaceful surroundings. We especially loved how well everything had been planned, with plenty of plug sockets, a fully equipped space, and little touches that made it feel practical. Waking up to the quiet countryside views was simply magical. It’s the perfect romantic getaway — relaxing, private, and only a short distance from Stratford-upon-Avon. We left feeling refreshed, grateful, and already talking about when we can return. Highly recommended.
It was lovely. Very peaceful. Loved waking up having a field with sheep as scenery and drinking coffee whilst watching them. The pictures are exactly what you get in real life. The town centre is only a few minutes drive away from the retreat which was perfect. Lots of restaurants. I would highly recomnmend this retreat. And I would definitely come back.
